Your Goal
You optimize backend code to restore Big Motors' production flow.
Simulation Details:
Big Motors is a global leader in the automotive industry, known for its innovative vehicle design, engineering, and manufacturing. With a network of 50 advanced manufacturing plants and 20 engineering hubs across five continents, the company produces over 10 million vehicles each year. Its operations rely on a sophisticated cloud-based infrastructure and microservices architecture, ensuring real-time data synchronization and precision at every stage of production. Among its critical backend systems is the Vehicle Timing Service, a Java Spring Boot component that synchronizes engineering and manufacturing schedules worldwide. The reliability of this service is essential to maintaining Big Motors’ reputation for precision, efficiency, and timely market delivery.
You step into the role of a Senior Full Stack Engineer at Big Motors, tasked with leading the optimization of the Vehicle Timing Service. This service is experiencing severe performance bottlenecks that are disrupting global production schedules. Your mission is to review and refactor the core Java source file, addressing inefficient database interactions and streamlining the data-access logic. As you work, you’ll embed clear documentation to guide junior developers and ensure the code aligns with company standards. Throughout the process, you collaborate directly with Alex Rivera, the Technical Lead overseeing the service’s architecture. After making your improvements, you’ll engage in a one-on-one voice call with Alex to walk through your changes, justify your decisions, and align on how to communicate the update to the Scrum team.
To complete the simulation, you need to identify and resolve backend performance issues by editing the collaborative code asset, ensuring your changes are well-documented and maintainable. You will clearly explain your technical decisions and trade-offs to Alex Rivera during a focused discussion, demonstrating how your refactor supports both immediate performance goals and long-term scalability. Your ability to communicate effectively and integrate your work into the team’s Agile workflow will be key to restoring the reliability of the Vehicle Timing Service.
