Context
Meridian Networks is a mid-sized IT firm specializing in web applications and cloud solutions for healthcare providers across North America. Its flagship LAMP application supports essential healthcare workflows, including patient data management, appointment scheduling, and billing integration. The platform is critical for over 300 healthcare organizations, handling sensitive patient data and ensuring regulatory compliance. However, Meridian Networks faces operational challenges due to aging on-premises infrastructure, high CPU and storage utilization, and recent compliance gaps identified in a HIPAA audit. To address these issues and support future growth, the company is planning a migration to AWS, aiming for scalable infrastructure, advanced security, and cost efficiency.
You are tasked with designing a migration strategy for Meridian Networks’ business-critical LAMP application, moving it from an overburdened on-premises setup to AWS. The migration must ensure scalability for projected traffic growth, zero unplanned downtime, HIPAA compliance, robust security, and strict cost control within a set budget. Stakeholder concerns include maintaining operational control, safeguarding sensitive data, and aligning the migration with business priorities.
As the Cloud Architect candidate, your mission is to collaborate with Renee Matthews, Senior Manager for Engineering, to develop a comprehensive AWS migration plan. You will begin by engaging Renee in a voice conversation to clarify requirements, constraints, and priorities for the migration. Using these insights, you will draft a detailed AWS architecture and migration plan in the shared editor, mapping each LAMP component to appropriate AWS services and outlining risk mitigation and compliance measures. Finally, you will present and discuss your plan with Renee, addressing her feedback and refining the strategy to ensure alignment with Meridian Networks’ operational goals.
