Fix a landing page screen readers can't use

Shows whether a candidate can find and repair barriers for disabled users without disturbing how the page looks.A product launch page ships tomorrow. It looks finished — and for anyone using a screen reader or navigating by keyboard, it is close to unusable: unlabelled images, a headline that isn't a heading, a "Subscribe" control that is a styled <div> the keyboard can never reach. Your job is to find those barriers and repair them without changing how the page looks to everyone else. The visual design is not the problem and must survive intact.

You're done when

  • The page declares its language, so a screen reader pronounces the content correctly instead of guessing.
  • Every image carries alt text — descriptive where it conveys meaning, explicitly empty where it is purely decorative.
  • The page has a real top-level heading, so assistive tech can announce what the page is.
  • The primary call to action is a genuine button or link — focusable, and activated by Enter or Space.
  • Every form input is programmatically associated with its label, not just visually near it.
  • The subscribe control is a real <button> rather than a clickable <div>.
  • Every link has an href, so it appears in the keyboard tab order.

What it measures

Web accessibilityRecognising the difference between a page that looks correct and one that is operable by assistive technology, and knowing which WCAG failures actually block a user.
Semantic HTMLReaching for the element that carries the right meaning — button, label, heading — instead of re-creating its behaviour on a generic div.
Directing AI preciselyAsking for a cited audit against a named standard rather than "make this accessible", then verifying each claimed fix against the live markup.
