Challenge overview

Your mission

Step into the shoes of a UX Designer at Meta; your mission is to revolutionize WhatsApp by integrating AI features such as chatbots, voice recognition, and predictive text. You’ll interact with a diverse cast of AI characters, including a Product Manager, a Senior UX Designer, an AI Engineer, and a Beta User, each providing valuable insights and feedback. Your challenge lies in conducting user research, proposing design principles and ideas that seamlessly incorporates the new AI features. The ultimate goal is to produce a recap of the project, a user research report, and a design proposal, all while addressing potential challenges and enhancing user experience. This simulation will hone your skills in AI-Driven UX Design, User Research, and AI Feature Integration.

Simulation details

Meta, previously known as Facebook Inc., is a tech giant leading the way in integrating AI into social media and digital communication platforms. They’re developing AI-powered features like “M”, a personal assistant for Messenger, and using AI to detect harmful content across their platforms. They’re also leveraging cutting-edge tools and software for UX design and AI development, such as PyTorch, React, and Figma. However, integrating AI into platforms like WhatsApp presents unique challenges, including privacy concerns and technical constraints.

In this simulation, you’ll step into the role of a UX Designer at Meta. Your mission is to transform WhatsApp into a virtual assistant by integrating AI features like chatbots, voice recognition technology, and predictive text. You’ll interact with various characters, including a Product Manager, a Senior UX Designer, an AI Engineer, and a Beta User, who will provide you with valuable insights and feedback.

Your action plan involves conducting user research, understanding the potential benefits and challenges of the new AI features, proposing a set of design principles and ideas, creating wireframes and mockups, and designing a user interface for WhatsApp that integrates the new AI features. You’ll need to make decisions about which AI features to prioritize, how to design the user interface to accommodate these features, and how to address potential challenges and concerns.

This simulation will allow you to develop and apply skills in AI-Driven UX Design, User Research, and AI Feature Integration. You’ll learn how to design user interfaces that leverage AI, conduct user research to understand user needs, and integrate AI features into existing products.

How to complete the simulation

Your goal is to start thinking about a prototype of the new user interface that effectively integrates the new AI features, enhances user experience, and addresses potential challenges.

You’ll produce a final document that contains:

1) A report on user research and AI feature identification
2) A proposal of design principles and ideas
3) A recap of the project, of your considerations and choices and anything else that would help the team start working on it.

Once completed, compile these assets into a single PDF and send it to Emily Davis, the Design Team Lead. Your success will be measured by the quality of these assets and the extent to which they meet the needs of the user and the objectives of the company.

Organization

WhatsApp is a popular messaging application owned by Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook Inc.), designed for smartphones and available globally. It provides users with services like text messaging, voice and video calls, and the ability to send images, documents, user locations, and other media. WhatsApp is distinguished by its end-to-end encryption that ensures the privacy and security of user communications. The app operates on a freemium model, where the core services are free with no advertisements, focusing on simplicity and user experience. Additionally, WhatsApp has extended its features to include business profiles, providing a platform for businesses to communicate with customers and manage transactions efficiently.
