You are midway through a critical cloud migration for Global Retail Inc., a multinational retailer. Two major technical challenges have led to significant cost overruns and timeline extensions: integrating GDPR-grade AES-256 encryption into legacy systems and cloud environments, and developing custom middleware to bridge incompatibilities between the client’s ERP and new cloud platforms. These issues have resulted in a €500,000 overrun and a €1 million budget shortfall, threatening project viability. Your task is to resolve these challenges while maintaining client trust and business continuity.
As Project Manager at Nimbus Solutions, your mission is to navigate technical and financial hurdles in this high-pressure scenario. You will first engage one-on-one with Laurene Berus, the Lead Technical Architect, to gather detailed cost, scope, and timeline data for both the encryption and middleware challenges, along with ROI projections and risk mitigation strategies. Next, you will negotiate directly with Alex Culir, Head of IT at Global Retail Inc., presenting your analysis and advocating for additional funding or proposing practical scope adjustments. Your goal is to align your proposal with the client’s priorities of cost control, transparency, and uninterrupted operations. Finally, you will consolidate all findings and agreements into a single Project Continuity Report, summarizing updated risks, timelines, and next steps, and deliver it to Alex for immediate acknowledgment.
To complete the simulation, you must:
- Gather and summarize technical and budget data through direct conversation with Laurene Berus.
- Present a clear, business-focused proposal to Alex Culir, addressing cost, risk, and operational priorities.
- Draft a single comprehensive Project Continuity Report that outlines agreed solutions, updated risks, timelines, and next steps.
