Your Role
Software Development Team Lead
Your Goal
Voice call teammate for insights, then voice call manager to report and problem-solve. Simulation Details: ForgePoint is a mid-sized software company known for delivering custom software solutions to clients in healthcare, finance, and logistics. The company’s technical stack includes Python and JavaScript, with React for front-end development and Django for back-end systems. ForgePoint uses Jira for project management and GitHub for version control, supporting agile workflows and efficient collaboration. The development team is made up of experienced senior developers and recently onboarded junior developers, all working under tight deadlines to deliver high-quality products. Recent disruptions—including a critical production bug, onboarding challenges, and a sudden switch from Trello to Jira—have impacted productivity and team morale, making operational recovery a top priority. As the Software Development Team Lead at ForgePoint, you are tasked with addressing a significant drop in your agile team’s productivity. Your mission unfolds through two focused voice calls. First, you will speak one-on-one with Joe Smith, a senior developer, to gather detailed insights about the factors affecting team performance, such as onboarding issues, the new project management tool, and recent client escalations. Next, you will report to Mary Chen, the engineering manager, presenting your analysis and Joe’s feedback. You must propose actionable solutions that balance immediate delivery needs with long-term team stability, while navigating Mary’s direct, results-driven expectations. - Identify and articulate the main factors contributing to the productivity drop. - Build trust and gather actionable feedback from the senior developer. - Present a concise analysis and propose practical solutions to the engineering manager. - Demonstrate analytical thinking and problem-solving skills through effective conversation. - Commit to clear next steps that address both immediate and long-term team needs.
