Simulation Details:
Nimbus Solutions is a leading IT consulting firm specializing in cloud migration and multi-cloud integration for global enterprises. Headquartered in Milan, Nimbus operates across Europe, North America, and Asia, delivering tailored solutions that improve IT system performance, resilience, and cost efficiency. The company is recognized for its expertise in navigating complex regulatory environments, implementing advanced technologies like Kubernetes and Terraform, and achieving measurable results such as reduced downtime and operational costs. Nimbus’s reputation is built on technical excellence, strategic partnerships with major cloud providers, and a strong track record of successful, high-profile projects in regulated industries.
You are managing a critical cloud migration project for Global Retail Inc., a multinational retailer. The project aims to enhance system resilience and flexibility while reducing downtime, but midway through, two major challenges have caused significant cost overruns and timeline delays: integrating stringent GDPR encryption across legacy and cloud systems, and developing custom middleware to ensure compatibility between the client’s legacy ERP and the new multi-cloud environment. These issues have added €500,000 in unexpected costs and extended the timeline, all while the client has imposed a 10% budget cut. You must now secure additional funding or negotiate a scope adjustment to keep the project viable and maintain client confidence.
As Project Manager at Nimbus Solutions, your mission is to navigate these unforeseen challenges by engaging directly with key stakeholders in a series of one-on-one interactions. First, you will chat with Laurene Berus, the Technical Architect, to extract detailed figures on the technical work and its impact on costs and timelines. Next, you will conduct a voice call with Alex Culir, Head of IT at Global Retail, to present your analysis, propose alternatives, and negotiate either a budget increase or a scope reduction. Finally, you will consolidate your findings and agreements into a single Project Continuity Report and submit it to Lucy Collergate, Nimbus’s Project Director, for review and approval. Throughout, you must demonstrate strong negotiation skills and project management fundamentals, translating complex technical issues into clear business value.
To complete the simulation, you must:
- Engage in a chat with the Technical Architect to gather precise technical and budget data.
- Conduct a voice call with the client’s Head of IT to negotiate funding or scope adjustments.
- Prepare a single Project Continuity Report summarizing technical findings, negotiated terms, recommendations, and an updated timeline.
Once you have finalized the report, save it as a PDF or DOCX and send it to the Project Director for approval.
