Your mission

In this simulation, you step into the shoes of a People Consultant at EY, working with BrightWave Industries, a global leader in the renewable energy sector. Your mission is to navigate a complex team conflict within the EY team, specifically between a Tech Senior Consultant and a Business Senior Consultant. Their differing viewpoints on the pace of technological integration are causing disruptions, potentially delaying a crucial digital transformation project. Your challenge is to manage the team dynamics, facilitate effective communication, and resolve the conflict without impacting the project timeline or quality. Through one-on-one discussions, active listening, and probing questions, you will uncover their concerns and ideas. Your task is to mediate the discussion, guiding the conversation towards a mutual understanding and resolution. Your success will be measured by the effectiveness of your conflict resolution, the quality of your synthesis of the team’s diverse viewpoints, and the acceptance of your solution by BrightWave Industries.

Simulation details

Company Overview
BrightWave Industries, a leading force in the renewable energy sector, is renowned for its high-efficiency solar panels. Founded by MIT graduates in 2001, it has grown into a multinational corporation with operations in over 50 countries. The company has installed over 1 million solar panels worldwide, generating enough electricity to power 2 million homes. BrightWave Industries is currently embarking on an ambitious digital transformation project, implementing IoT-enabled devices and data analytics to enhance production efficiency and reduce maintenance costs.

Challenge

Your mission revolves around a conflict within the EY team, specifically between Tech Senior Consultant, Alex Johnson, and Business Senior Consultant, Sarah Thompson. Alex advocates for rapid technological integration, while Sarah insists on a comprehensive assessment of BrightWave Industries’ needs before proceeding. This discord is causing significant disruptions in the project timeline, potentially delaying the project by six months. BrightWave Industries expects the conflict to be resolved without affecting the project timeline or the quality of the digital transformation.

Your role

As a People Consultant at EY, your primary responsibility is to manage the team dynamics, facilitate effective communication, and resolve the conflict between Alex and Sarah. You will engage in one-on-one discussions with each consultant to understand their perspectives. Using active listening and probing questions, you will uncover their concerns and ideas. Then, you will mediate the discussion, using collaboration and negotiation skills to guide the conversation towards a mutual understanding and resolution. Finally, you will develop a synthesis of the team’s diverse viewpoints and present the solution to the Chief Technology Officer at BrightWave Industries.

Learn and apply your skills

Throughout the simulation, you will have the opportunity to develop and enhance your skills in collaboration, active listening, and information sharing. These skills are vital for managing team conflicts, understanding diverse perspectives, and fostering a collaborative work environment. You will apply these skills in real-world scenarios, such as mediating discussions, synthesizing diverse viewpoints, and presenting solutions to BrightWave Industries.

How to complete the simulation

The successful completion of the simulation involves resolving the team conflict, creating a synthesis that incorporates all team members’ viewpoints, and validating this solution with BrightWave Industries.

You are expected to produce a conflict resolution report detailing each team member’s perspectives, a synthesis document outlining the final solution that mediates these viewpoints, and a client feedback and response document addressing concerns raised by the client.

These final assets should be compiled into a single document and sent to Lisa Davis, the Consulting Manager at EY. The success of the simulation will be measured by the effectiveness of the conflict resolution, the quality of the synthesis, and the acceptance of the solution by BrightWave Industries.
